Five Dads from Crewe have joined forces and qualified for the British Dance Organisation’s British Championships in 2018.
Training at The Glasheen Academy began three months ago, following an idea from Academy owner, Damian Glasheen.
Dynamic Dads have entered and won two competitions in that time, at Manchester and Blackpool, securing a place in the British Championships in the new year.
Competing against other parent teams, Dynamic Dads’ winning dance consisted of a routine including four styles – hip hop, whacking, locking and tricking.
The Dads trump all other Street Dance competitors for being the only Parent Team they are aware of, who consist of all Dad’s.
TGA Street Dance teach over 300 children across Crewe, Nantwich and Bentilee in Stoke-on-Trent, with this new venture attracting Dads of these children to compete.
Damian Glasheen, said: “My idea about starting a Dad’s team just began when I wanted to prove to my 12 year old daughter, Kya, that you can do anything if you put your mind to it.
“I was determined to get a group of Dads dancing and see them enter competitions and win. I was surprised but so delighted to have won the two competitions that we’ve entered so far and to now be qualified for the Street Dance British Championships for next year!”
Dancer Martin Fisher, said: “I started with Dynamic Dads for a bit of fun with like-minded novice Dads. I never would have believed at the time that we’d compete in a competition and then go on to win!
“The reaction we received was incredible, when we competed for the first time in October. My friends and family keep asking when the next competition is and now we’re gearing up towards our third competition in February – the British Championships!”
The Dad’s train once a week at TGA’s Dance Studio on Thomas Street in Crewe will continue to compete in preparation for the Championships in February.
